Discover a joyful learning environment for your child, where p d is at the forefront of our educational approach.
Here at Little Angels Preschool, we believe each child is born with a special gift that makes them a unique individual. We see children as strong, creative, and rich in potential, especially in their connection with those around them. Children can develop their full potential when provided a safe, loving, open-ended, and warm home-like environment that encourages them to grow into confident, caring, and successful individuals. Our goal is to document the children's journey in growth and learning and support them daily with their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
As a school, we adopt various early childhood philosophies to create an exemplary program that incorporates play-based learning and the principles of p d.
Reggio Emilia's Philosophy focuses on three main points:
The Child
Children are able to pursue their own interests and revisit and build upon ideas at their own pace. In the book ‘100 languages of children’, the main concept recognizes that children have multiple ways of thinking, playing, exploring, speaking, and doing. The Reggio Emilia approach encourages children to use every tool they have to express themselves.
The Environment
A Reggio-inspired environment, often referred to as ‘the third teacher’, is one that is open and free-flowing. It enables uninterrupted exploration, play, and learning. Outdoor spaces are valued just as highly as formal classrooms, and the design of the space should allow children to move freely between the two.
The Teacher
Teachers are encouraged to observe children rather than direct them. It is important that children are allowed to experiment in their own way, make mistakes, and find new solutions with the help and support of their teachers as needed. The role of the teacher is to gently guide students towards areas of interest to them, and this can only be done through careful observation carried out over time, and documentation of the child through various stages of growth and learning.
Play-Based and Emergent Philosophy:
Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development. Through play, children at a very early age engage and interact with the world around them. Play allows children to create and explore a world they can master, conquering their fears while practicing adult roles, sometimes alongside other children or adult caregivers and their teachers.
Play-based learning helps a child develop holistically through social-emotional learning, developing confidence and motivation, and practicing cognitive skills. The children learn the skills they need in a supportive environment with the help and supervision of an experienced teacher who knows how to take interests and experiences and turn them into learning moments.
Parents and Family!
Parents’ participation is key at Little Angels Preschool and daycare. Creating a close relationship between families and teachers and having an open dialogue between home and school is essential at our school. We believe in creating a home away from home for the children in our care. Parents are encouraged to visit the school and participate in various activities throughout the year. We know how busy each family is, especially living in the Bay Area. Thus, we create several opportunities throughout the year to help each family, with their unique life and work situations, to be part of our school and their children’s learning.

At Little Angels Nursery schools, we offer a comprehensive curriculum that is tailored to meet the developmental needs of each child, focusing on their p d. Our play-based, Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum draws ideas and lesson plans from observing children during play, while also responding to their inquiries and questions.

I attended Sonoma State University, where I majored in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Human Development. I obtained my certification as an associate teacher in early childhood education and am now pursuing another certificate in special education at CCSF to enhance my skills in p d. Hello! I’m Wilna, a first-year student at SFSU studying Child and Adolescent Development, aiming to earn my bachelor’s degree in this field. Born and raised in San Francisco, I enjoy traveling and going out with friends—I'm also a big foodie! Growing up, I was always surrounded by babies and kids at home and at church, which naturally fostered my love for playing and interacting with them. At 16, I became a Bible study teacher, primarily working with infants and Pre-K, which reinforced my passion for early childhood education. I look forward to continuing my journey and expanding my knowledge in child development while working with the kids at Little Angels Nursery School!
